Privacy
This leaderboard is run by the publisher of Bench to Build. Playing the game sends nothing anywhere: your progress is saved only in your browser or on your device. Information is only sent when you press Submit score at the end of a challenge, Send feedback, or use Play on another device.
What a submission stores
- The name you type. It is shown publicly on the leaderboard, so use a nickname if you prefer (kids: please do).
- Your company, only if you pick or type one (it's optional). It is shown publicly next to your name and lets the board be filtered by company. A company that isn't on the list yet shows as "company pending" until we've checked it.
- A player key: a random code made by the game on your device, so your own runs are grouped together (each player's best counts, this month and all-time). It isn't shown, and it says nothing about you or your device.
- Your score, its breakdown, tier, jobs delivered and reputation.
- A share card: a picture of your result (your name, company, score, tier, jobs delivered, the month and how the
run ended) that the game makes when you submit. The card and its page (
/s/and a number, which the game's Share buttons link to) are public, the same as your row on the leaderboard: anyone with the link can see them, and sites like LinkedIn show the card when the link is posted. If a score is removed from the board, its card and page go with it. - The list of moves you made in the challenge, the game version and the time, so the score can be checked by replaying it.
- A scrambled form of your internet address (a salted one-way hash, which can't be turned back into the address), used only to limit how many scores one connection can send, to stop spam.
- Your email address only if you tick the box asking for the results.
Feedback
If you use Send feedback in the game menu, we get what you write, the game version, your device type and screen size, the same scrambled internet address (for spam limits), and, only if you leave the box ticked, a copy of your game so we can replay what happened. Feedback is only read by the people making the game and is deleted once the beta is over.
Transfer codes
Play on another device in the game menu puts a copy of your game online under a random code like BIRD-7KQ2-XM9D, so
you can carry on in another browser or on another device. We store the game, the game version, the times it was saved, a random
player id (so your leaderboard runs stay together) and the same scrambled internet address (for spam limits). No name, email
or other personal details. The code itself isn't stored, only a scrambled form of it, but anyone who has the code can load
that game (and save over it), so share it only with yourself. To have a saved game deleted, write to hefin.evans@gmail.com with its code.
If you opt in, your email is used only to send the challenge results. It is never shown, sold or shared. Every email says who it's from and how to stop them: reply "unsubscribe" (or write to hefin.evans@gmail.com) and you'll be taken off the list within five business days. If you don't tick the box, your email isn't stored, even if you typed one.
Where it's kept, and for how long
The leaderboard runs on Cloudflare, whose servers may be outside Australia. Scores stay as part of the leaderboard's history; emails are kept until you unsubscribe. No advertising, no tracking cookies and no analytics are used.
